PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium/Deluxe subscribers will gain access to several driving and race titles when the new service launches in June 2022.
Sony has started revealing its initial slate of games for the upcoming PlayStation Plus re-launch – and it includes several driving titles.
Before we dive in, the ‘new’ PlayStation Plus is available in three tiers: Essential, Extra and Premium/Deluxe.
Essential provides access to only gameplay and a small revolving library of games to download and play each month – identical to the current PlayStation Plus service.
With PlayStation Plus Extra you get the Essential tier plus a catalogue of up to 400 PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 games that can be downloaded and played.
Finally, PlayStation Plus Premium/Deluxe adds everything in the Essential and Extra tiers and up to 340 original PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable (PSP) titles.
Several games have been announced as the first set today, 16th May, with more set to be announced ahead of the June launch date.
Of those, the superlative anti-gravity racer WipEout Omega Collection will be part of the collection for the top two tiers, alongside The Crew 2 and Destruction AllStars.
Jak X: Combat Racing is part of the Classic Games Catalogue for those subscribing to the top tier, alongside the PS4 version of 2008 racer Baja: Edge of Control HD.
Just like on the outgoing PlayStation Now game streaming service, MotorStorm Apocalypse and MotorStorm RC will be two PS3 racing games built into the service too.
Of course, there are several other big hitters as part of the announced line-up, such as Returnal, Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War, but these are the only racing games announced for the service so far. We expect more titles to be announced in the coming weeks and the line-up will change on a regular basis.
The new PlayStation Plus launches on 24th May in Asia, 2nd June in Japan, 13th June in North and South America and 23rd June in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. It will also incorporate a selection of Ubisoft+ Classics such as Trackmania Turbo, The Crew and a pair of Trials bike racing games.
